I just got TooLs Vicarious DVD, and watched it. Wow I’m very impressed, Adam Jones your my hero, it an all digital CGI video, and in my opinion one of there best videos yet, and that’s saying a lot, (although I really prefer there stop motion work). It’s like watching an Alex Grey painting come literally to life, mind expanding visionary work. And the commentaries on this one are probably the most hilarious commentaries I have ever heard ever film or music, I can’t get enough of it.

Now after watching this, I flipped over to the TV and threw on Much music (Canada’s version of MTV) and I was surprised there was actually music on, but all that surprise fell away when Snoop Dog was on, now I’m not knocking the Dog but really what kind of drugs are these people on. Shitty Shitty videos, I’m sorry to say there is only Shit on TV. Most videos consist of money, ass and a shitty beat, oh oh and the latest cell phone. And I ask my self do people really buy in to this and yes they do. They see, they buy, they buy, they use, they use, they trash, and the cycle starts all over again. So I ask myself do I do this and yes I do, in fact I spent $10 on the TooL DVD, but the thing is I justify it by telling myself, Self this is art and a very fine piece of art it is, plus self I am supporting a great cause, TooL Alex Grey, and the furthering of the art community. But then again I did by it at HMV so who am I really supporting?

The truth is I do it more then I would care to admit. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but there is also nothing good about that. I think what needs to be done is a little self examination, not blind shopping. Do I need this? Will I use this in the long term? Why am I really buying this? Is it fear the media places in my mind? Basically what we all need to before buying shit we don’t need is, to think for our self. Examine our selves, the more we can look in to our own self the more we can see clearly, the more we might be able to grow as a human species. If we don’t we will be helping in the termination of the human race. Or at least a race that has something real to offer, to give back, and further the progress of society, a society where we can live and breathe with eyes coming out of eyes, and not live vicariously through the TV, but actually make a difference in the world.

If you watch this video ask your self, what the world would be like if all bands took the time to create art like TooL does, I’m not saying all videos have to like a TooL video. Just making real art would be nice, I truly believe the world would be a better place with out the shit that’s on MTV or any music channel, and replaced with visionary artistic talent, not money making crap selling ass.
