High Def Ultra Realism

Mon Dec 8, 2008, 7:07 PM
With all this High-Def talk these days, Blu-ray and next gen gaming consoles, and with Quantum computers on the way, and robots that can already cook, clean and vacuum your house. What do you think the effect on the world is? Is it a good thing? Should we really be seeing things on a 60inch plasma that looks more real the “real life”? Shouldent there be a line between the two?

Should kids be growing up with High-Def cartoons, and ultra real violence presented in 1080p? Is there enough protection for there eyes against these things we call entertainment.

If anyone has ever seen the movie called ‘Salo’ you know what I mean, I’m sure it will be on Blu-ray one of these days for you sick pleasure. But be warned if you chose to watch Salo then you chose to change as a person, well as long as you watch the whole thing.......If you can watch the whole thing.

Or.... is it all ok, is this all just entertainment? And since it’s not real anyway what’s the big deal? I mean come on, it’s not like you actually kill anyone. I have a PS3, Xbox 360 and a Wii, And I shoot people every day, on a screen. But it’s only a game, and I wouldn’t do it in real life, so what’s the problem. Plus in a world where there is so much violence we should probably desensitize everyone anyway, right?
..............................................................................

So tell me what you think, is our world moving to fast for our own good, or are we right on track right where we should be, evolving a good steady pace.

Maybe we are not moving fast enough. You decide.

Peace
Chris

Kinda reminds me of an anime I watched, a very intelligent one, called "Serial Experiments Lain". Though, that was more about the line between the internet and reality being blurred, but same kinda concept. It's an interesting one. I don't know that HD is going to change the world for the worst, but robots learning to "make our lives easier" could be a bad thing. I mean, with obesity already on the rise, do they really think that having machines work for us will make the situation better?

Cool I like Amime so I will check that one out.
The idea of Robot doing stuff for us is nice, but in reality it's kinda creepy, actually having one in a home walking around.
There is this new internet robot for old people where if two people are talking in the same room as the robot, it listens in and if say your talking about new movies or something, it will automatically bring up a list of the theaters in your area and the movie you where talking about and let you know how much it costs and what time it's at. That type of thing. It sounds cool, but it's almost too weird for me, what ever happend to looking it up on the internet your self?

I think its just important to think about it. To look at it and realize what effects it may or may not have on you. I know that I enjoy violent games and movies, but I'm a pacifist in practice. On top of which, i think that desensitization is fairly important, so long as we can separate real from artificial, and not just desensitize them both

Yeah your right as long as we make a conscience effort we should all be ok, but the problem is 99% of the people don’t make any effort to think about it, they just stair in to the TV and buy buy buy....

Yea, its kinda true... I dunno, its a hard thing to really figure out... you dont wanna just cave to those people who don't want to think, but at the same time you need to do something...

Yeah excatly. It seems creepy to me as well. I mean, first having them in homes, cooking, cleaning, helping out etc. But what next? Have them wash us for us like we are children? It's all too wierd and too creepy to me. Also, I think about how incredibly lazy I would feel if a robot did everything for me. I'm a housewife so to speak, so what kind of life would that be for me for example if that happened? *shudder* lol
